On September 26, SK Innovation held a planting event to create the \u2018SK Ulsan Forest of Happiness\u2019 with the will of achieving Net Zero target in the Ulsan area, where the company\u2019s major manufacturing plants are located. This is one of SK Innovation\u2019s activities to celebrate its 60th<\/sup> anniversary on October 13 this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The location to be reforested by SK Innovation this time is in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, South Korea. This is where a big fire occurred in March 2020, destroying a total area of 519 hectares (ha), which is the size of adding about\u200b\u200b 727 soccer fields together. To alleviate such loss, together with the local government of Ulsan Metropolitan City and Ulju-gun, SK Innovation decided to plant 180,000 Sargent’s cherry (Prunus sargentii) trees on the total area of 60 ha there. The cost for reforestation, which is equivalent to KRW 1 billion, is to be sponsored by SK Innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company plans to carry out the reforestation and volunteer activities in Ulju-gun twice, from October to November 2022 and from February to March 2023. Afterwards, Ulsan Metropolitan City and Ulju-gun will manage and monitor the planted trees to keep them growing well.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith the love for people and forests, ever since the early day of SK, the late Chairman Chey had managed the company with the philosophy of nurturing people like trees and nurturing forests like nurturing talent,\u201d said Kim Jun, Vice Chairman of SK Innovation.\u201c \u201cI hope that SK Innovation, which has grown with Ulsan’s love and partnership, will be able to create stronger companionship and greater happiness with Ulsan in the next 60 years as well,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n
