\u25a0<\/strong> First 300,000-barrel condensate cargo from the Barossa gas project to arrive at Incheon in early August\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25a0<\/strong> Naphtha-rich condensate strengthens Korea’s resource security <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

SK Innovation E&S announced on July 27th<\/sup> that 300,000 barrels of condensate produced at the Barossa gas project will arrive at Incheon Port in early August. The cargo was loaded from the BW Opal FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) vessel at Barossa on July 24th<\/sup> aboard the Aframax tanker Boccadesse<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This condensate is a light liquid hydrocarbon produced alongside natural gas \u2014 also known as “ultra-light oil.” Lighter and more volatile than conventional crude, it is rich in naphtha, the basic feedstock for plastics and synthetic fibers, and is expected to play a role in stabilizing Korea’s naphtha supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond condensate, SK Innovation E&S has been importing 1.3 million tonnes of LNG per year from Barossa since this year, equivalent to roughly 3% of Korea’s total annual LNG imports, further supporting the country’s natural gas supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The imported condensate volume will feed SK Incheon Petrochem’s dedicated processing facility. Naphtha extracted through this process will be used to produce high-value-added paraxylene (PX) as well as petroleum products such as gasoline and jet fuel, contributing to the company’s overall cost competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Barossa gas project is a large-scale offshore gas field located approximately 285 km north of Darwin, in northwestern Australia. SK Innovation E&S has participated in the project since 2012, covering the full development cycle from reserves assessment to permitting and facility construction. Santos operates the project and holds a 50% interest, alongside joint venture partners SK Innovation E&S’s subsidiary, PRISM Energy International Australia (37.5%), and JERA Australia (12.5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By bringing home LNG and condensate from the Barossa gas project, SK Innovation E&S has further reinforced the foundation of Korea’s resource security and energy self-sufficiency. The company currently secures approximately 20 million barrels of crude oil and natural gas, along with roughly 6 million tonnes of LNG, annually across 11 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe delivery of this cargo to SK Incheon Petrochem reflects the long-standing relationship between Santos, PRISM and SK, and the commercial partnerships that underpin both energy and regional security across the Asia-Pacific region,” said Santos Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Gallagher. “I want to thank our joint venture partners, customers, contractors and the Barossa project teams whose work made this milestone possible,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesperson for SK Innovation E&S commented, “The Barossa project is a case where a private company took a long-term view on overseas resource development, ultimately connecting commercial production to actual imports into Korea. Bringing home LNG and condensate from the Barossa gas project is significant in that it reduces our reliance on external resources and strengthens the stability of Korea’s industrial supply chain.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
