SK Earthon, the exploration and production (E&P) subsidiary of SK Innovation, announced on October 13 that first oil has been successfully achieved at the Lac Da Vang (Golden Camel) development in Block 15-1\/05 offshore Vietnam \u2014 about two years after the project was sanctioned for development in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Murphy Oil Corporation, operator of Block 15-1\/05, reported that production facilities were completed early, allowing first oil on September 27, 2026, ahead of the original schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lac Da Vang holds estimated recoverable resources of approximately 60 million barrels and is currently producing steadily through its first production well. Murphy plans to bring additional wells online in phases to ramp up output, with gross field production expected to reach up to 25,000 barrels of oil per day once development is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With production now underway at Block 15-1\/05, SK Earthon has expanded its producing portfolio in Vietnam beyond Block 15-1, which came onstream in 2003, and expects the new development to deliver stable earnings going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SK Earthon and Murphy also announced an exploration discovery at the Lac Da Trang (White Camel) North-1X well, located near the Lac Da Vang development. The well encountered 56 meters of oil-bearing reservoir at a total measured depth of 3,834 meters (12,579 ft).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partners will evaluate the discovery and assess appraisal and development options. Given its proximity, the Lac Da Vang facilities could provide host infrastructure for a future subsea tieback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May last year, SK Earthon and Murphy also made an oil discovery at the Lac Da Hong (Pink Camel) structure in the same block and completed a successful production test. Together with Murphy as operator and PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), SK Earthon plans to further appraise Lac Da Trang North while pursuing an integrated development of the Lac Da Vang and Lac Da Hong structures to maximize reserves and production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SK Earthon has also made a discovery in the adjacent Block 15-2\/17, adding to a steady run of exploration success in Vietnam’s Cuu Long Basin. The company is applying a clustering strategy across these neighboring blocks \u2014 sharing technical know-how and operating experience to improve development efficiency and build on its track record in Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SK Earthon holds a 25% working interest in Block 15-1\/05. Murphy operates the block with a 40% working interest, and PVEP holds the remaining 35%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A representative from SK Earthon said, “First oil at Lac Da Vang is the result of the clustering strategy we have pursued in Vietnam. We will continue to expand our Vietnamese portfolio through integrated development of adjacent blocks and strengthen our position in Southeast Asia’s E&P market.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The milestone also carries added significance at a time of rising geopolitical tension and uncertainty in global energy supply chains, securing an additional source of supply through overseas upstream development. SK Earthon plans to continue strengthening its E&P capabilities while contributing to the diversification of energy sources and to Korea’s energy security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since entering the E&P business in 1983, SK Innovation and its subsidiaries have built a portfolio of 13 blocks and five producing gas fields across 11 countries, with net production of 58,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day on an SK working-interest basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
