SK E&S (CEO Yu Jeong Joon, www.skens.com) has obtained ISO22301 certification for its Business Continuity Management System, which demonstrates that the power company\u2019s crisis response system is recognized globally.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

SK E&S said the company received the certification from Lloyd\u2019s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), a leading provider of certification services, in an auditorium of the Gwangyang LNG Power Plant on December 20.<\/span><\/p>\n

Headquartered in the UK, LRQA is a world-leading provider of independent assessment services, including business system certification and training across a broad spectrum of standards and schemes. \u2018Business Continuity Management System\u2019 (ISO22301) is an international standard specified by ISO to minimize the impact on businesses of disruptive incidents such as disasters, catastrophes and terrorism, when they arise and pose a risk to business continuity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Achieving the standards required for ISO22301 enables SK E&S to show that it has a system capable of responding to and reducing damage from disasters and incidents and rapidly recovering its core business and major infrastructure if these events do occur.<\/span><\/p>\n

SK E&S is Korea\u2019s first private power company to obtain ISO22301 certification.
\n*Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., Korea Western Power Co., Ltd., and Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. obtained the certification in 2015, while Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd. earned it in 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

SK E&S said it had carried out internal diagnoses for a year, submitted performance documentation, and took steps for documentation assessment and an on-site audit, prior to becoming ISO-certified.<\/span><\/p>\n

This certification is subject to an annual audit, and the energy company will take measures for renewal of the certification to ensure its system stays compliant.<\/span><\/p>\n

SK E&S adds that the certification shows it has become a privately-owned power company that is not only the most competitive in unit costs, but adopts a crisis response system with the highest standards.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Gwangyang LNG Power Plant, operated by SK E&S, is recognized as the most competitive in terms of unit costs as it imports the fuel directly from Tangguh, Indonesia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Director Lee Jae Won of Gwangyang LNG Power Plant stated, \u201cThe power plant will not be complacent with the status quo but will continue its commitment to contributing to a power supply that remains reliable across the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u203b ISO 22301(BCMS)
\n– ISO22301 for BCMS (Business Continuity Management System) is a standard that specifies the requirements for planning, establishing and implementing a documented management system to ensure business continuity in the event disasters or incidents occur.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

– There has been a growing recognition that a system for business continuity was needed after a terrorist attack was carried out in the basement of the World Trade Center\u2019s twin towers in 1993, and this need was reinforced with the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Great East Japan earthquake in 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n

– In 2005, the Japanese government began to encourage enterprises to establish a system for BCM to prepare for earthquakes in Tokyo. Currently, 62% of companies in the US and 15% in Japan have developed BCMS.<\/span><\/p>\n
