\u25b2 Image by\u00a0Georgia Department of Economic Development<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n On October 7th<\/sup> (local time), Pat Wilson, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) shared a Guest Column entitled \u201cSK Innovation project a game-changer\u201d on Main Street News (https:\/\/www.mainstreetnews.com\/<\/a>). Pat Wilson has served as Commissioner of GDEcD, which is responsible for creating jobs and investment opportunities in Georgia, since November 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Through his column on Main Street News, Commissioner Wilson once again showed his support for SK Innovation\u2019s investment in Jackson Country, where the company is building its first EV battery manufacturing facility in the U.S. He called SK Innovation\u2019s investment \u201can enormous job and opportunity-creating project in Jackson County\u201d, and \u201can economic game-changer, with the potential to create significant benefits not only for the county and the City of Commerce, but for businesses across Northeast Georgia.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Pat Wilson emphasized the economic benefits that the project \u201cis already creating\u201d, while pointed out that SK Innovation is not only providing the temporary construction jobs but also \u201con its way to making a difference for the 2,600 individuals SK Innovation will soon directly employ for the long term.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Stating SK Innovation as \u201cSouth Korea\u2019s largest energy company\u201d, Commissioner Wilson also mentioned the positive effects of this project to \u201csuppliers locating within the surrounding area.\u201d He explained, \u201cThe magnitude of this multi-tiered project will serve as a foothold for Georgia to take advantage of the rapidly growing electric vehicle industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u25b2 Employees take pictures in front of the SK Innovation\u2019s EV battery factory in Georgia <\/p>\n In addition, Pat Wilson shared that as \u201ca native of Northeast Georgia\u201d, he felt \u201cexcited to see this kind of opportunity come to [his] home region.\u201d Furthermore, he expected that SK Innovation\u2019s project will \u201cgenerate $271 million in revenue for Jackson County over the next 20 years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Commissioner of GDEcD continued by reiterating the importance of the investment from international companies in Georgia, calling it \u201ca vital part\u201d of their communities.
