April 29 marks a truly special day. In 1980, a 7-year-old boy named Chris, battling leukemia in Arizona, had his dream of becoming a police officer fulfilled thanks to the kindness and support of those around him. To honor this life-changing moment, the date became known as World Wish Day.
Inspired by the compassion shown to Chris over 40 years ago, employees of SK Innovation affiliates partnered with Make-A-Wish Korea last year to support children with critical illnesses. As “Wish Angels“, they walked alongside these children (“Wish Kids”) on their “Wish Journeys,” dedicating months to turning their dreams into reality.
Recently, the Wish Kids and their families shared heartfelt letters with us. We often hear sayings like, “Dreams belong to those who dare to dream,” or “Chase your dreams.” But when we reflect on those words, we realize they don’t always mean that dreams must be achieved through one’s efforts alone. Reality often proves that without the support of others, some dreams may remain just that—dreams. And sometimes, by helping someone else’s dream come true, we learn how to take steps closer to achieving our own.
The messages from Wish Kids and their families overflow with gratitude, but what truly touches us is the privilege of being part of their journeys. Their words remind us of the importance of humility and inspire us to continue striving to do more. Perhaps the true power of dreams lies not in chasing them alone, but in dreaming together.
Today, we reflect on these moments of hope and joy through the heartfelt thank-you letters sent by the Wish Kids and their families. These messages remind us of the beauty of giving and the lasting impact of a dream fulfilled.
